The image above is a reproduction of a painting of Mary as the Immaculate Conception that hangs above the main altar of the Basilica-Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Québec. It was painted in 1925 by Sister Mary of the Eucharist, a Sister of Charity of Québec, to replace the 18th-century painting destroyed during a fire at the cathedral in 1922.

In 1664, Bishop François de Laval designated the cathedral as the first parish church of Québec and named it Notre-Dame de l'Immaculèe Conception (Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception). At the time, the Diocese of Québec encompassed all the North American possessions of France, from the Atlantic Coast in Canada to the plains of the far West, plus the Mississippi Valley and Louisiana territories — an area far larger than all of Europe. The cathedral celebrates its 350th anniversary in 2014. A jubilee year will run from Dec. 8, 2013, to Dec. 28, 2014, to mark the cathedral's historic status as the first parish and first cathedral of Canada, and its role as the mother church to all parishes in Canada and the United States.

The Arizona Rosary Celebration is a 501(c)(3) organization. Donations may be tax deductible.

Arizona Rosary Celebration

For over 35 years the Diocese of Phoenix held an annual gathering of the faithful that became one of the largest annual public Rosary celebrations in the United States. The tradition changed four years ago as we were blessed with the opportunity to hold a Rosary celebration in Tucson as well as in Phoenix. With this expansion, Rosary Sunday was renamed the "Arizona Rosary Celebration" and now held each year in both Tucson and in Phoenix. This year marks the 39th year of Arizona's Rosary Celebration tradition. Together, these two wonderful events honor our Lady.

This major celebration in honor of Our Lady is sponsored by the Arizona Knights of Columbus and held in conjunction with the Dioceses of Tucson and Phoenix. Invitations to participate are extended to all parishes and groups in each diocese.

Your participation and support is desired and very much needed in helping honor our Blessed Mother. We seek her special protection and powerful intercession! Mark your calendars and inform and remind your family and friends. Pass the word passionately and often.
